The Bear Fire in unincorporated Santa Cruz County is "calming down" and is now 50 percent contained, a Cal Fire division chief said Saturday morning.

The fire has now burned 728 acres, and is still about five-percent contained with more than 120 fire personnel are working to put out the flames.

Thanks to higher humidities, the Park Fire’s acreage remained the same as containment increased Tuesday.

UCLA, which abuts Palisades Fire evacuation warning zones, will host classes online until Friday after shutting down in-person classes last week.

Extreme winds from the north and northeast will continue to blow into the Los Angeles region through Wednesday morning, bringing gusts of up to 80 mph.
